Safety in Bible Chat

Bible Chat helps you find Scripture and read a short, reviewed answer that goes with it. It is not a pastor, counselor, doctor or emergency service, and it cannot provide crisis care.

If you or someone else may be in danger

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. Reach out to someone you trust, a qualified professional, or your local church or pastor.

If you are thinking about suicide or are in emotional distress, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or chat at 988lifeline.org. It is free and open all day and every day. In the app, choose “Find human support” and then “United States” to see these options.

What happens when a message suggests danger

Bible Chat checks each question on your device before showing an answer, using fixed rules and the crisis tiers in its reviewed topic library. If your message suggests you may be at risk of harming yourself or someone else, or that you are being harmed, the app does not show a topic answer. It shows a fixed message written by people, with options to find human support, and Scripture passages for comfort. If the app cannot tell what you meant, it asks whether you may be unsafe and shows the same support options. Some answers also carry a support banner. Sponsored cards never appear next to a safety message.

What Bible Chat will not do

How answers are made

Discover lessons and Bible Chat answers start as drafts written with AI from Scripture and named public-domain commentaries. Each one is checked and reviewed by people before it reaches you. No AI model writes anything while you use the app: the only model on your device matches your question to the closest reviewed topic. You can read the same explanation in Settings → About → How answers are made.

Reviewing reduces mistakes but cannot remove them. An answer can still be wrong, miss your situation or misdescribe a passage. Read the cited Scripture in context and talk with your pastor or a qualified professional about anything important.
